3.16 BILLION STILL UNREACHED

Did you know there are nearly 12,000 people groups in the world? A people group is the largest group through which the Gospel can flow without encountering significant language or cultural barriers.

Unreached People Groups

An unreached people group (UPG) is defined as a group of people where less than 2% of the population is evangelical Christians. For example, the Ansari people in India have an estimated population of over ten million people (10,700,000). Currently, 0.0% of them are known adherents to evangelical Christianity. That is an unreached people group. Similarly, the Bosnian people living in the United States are only 0.1% evangelical Christians. They are also considered an unreached people group.

This is not a problem for a specific part of the world. Yes, there is a large concentration of unreached peoples in Asia and the Middle East. However, wherever you are there are people that have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ right around you. Some estimates say that as much as 45% of the global population lives in an unreached people group.

Recently a coalition has emerged that is looking at the problem of unreached peoples through the lens of engagement. Read more about how to measure progress with the 7 Phases of Engagement .
